Michael J Kelley, MBA, is an experienced healthcare executive with over 30 years of service in ophthalmology. As Director of Outpatient Surgery and Operations, he opened the university’s first ambulatory surgery center in Palm Beach Gardens. His responsibilities at the University of Miami have included clinical operations for Bascom Palmer Eye Institute; Vice Chair of the Miller School of Medicine in Boca Raton; Vice Chair of UMMG, the faculty practice; and planning and operations for the new Bascom Palmer August Medical Eye Institute in Abu Dhabi.
Kelley has been active in UM humanitarian relief operations including a month long deployment to Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina. He spent several months coordinating activities for UM as Chief Administrative Officer of University of Miami Haiti Field Hospital following the earthquake, and coordinated Bascom Palmer’s initiatives in Japan following the Tsunami. He co-directs the university’s responses to support impacted Caribbean nations, including Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. He was elected President of the MGMA Ophthalmology Assembly and served as the first chairman of the AAO’s Administrator’s Network.
In 2014, he was tapped into the Iron Arrow Society, the highest honor awarded by the University of Miami.
