The University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is making efforts toward alleviating inequalities in cancer control in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) through the Global Oncology and International Programs initiative.

How

• Inbound and outbound educational opportunities
• Awarding internal research grants, creation of research post doc positions, and bridging international research collaborators with UM
• Improving the International patient experience and providing guidance to partners to develop their own services considering resource restraints

All Global Oncology and International efforts include ongoing initiatives with partners in LMICs that focus on 3 main areas:

Education
To lead education and training of healthcare professionals in cancer control in resource limited settings.

Research
To build a world class global oncology research program investigating differences in cancer biology, and disparities in prevention, care, research, and the disease's social and human impact around the world.

Patient Care
To bring a patient centered approach to cancer treatment considering an appropriate level of resources available within the LMIC.
