Nurses provide valuable care throughout the University of Miami Health System. As a UHealth nurse, you have the opportunity to practice patient care in different areas.
The Surgical Services Department at UHealth provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services in areas including in the pre-op clinic, holding area, operating room, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). Our Surgical Services Department uses Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards as guidelines for nursing care and staffing as appropriate.
Within our operating rooms, our OR nurses maintain the highest standards of care. Our nursing teams are experienced in the latest minimally invasive and robotic procedures as well as open and complex surgeries.
Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Nurses in the cardiac catheterization lab provide emergency care during active heart attacks as well as support during diagnostic testing and scheduled treatments. They use the latest technology and equipment to support physicians and patients.
In our interventional radiology suites, nurses help deliver the most advanced, minimally invasive care possible. They assist in the treatment of a wide range of conditions, from cancer to uterine fibroids.
Inpatient nursing services include advanced, supportive care in many different specialties, including:
In our specialized orthopedics unit, patients recover from orthopedic surgeries and trauma. These patients receive care designed to help them get back on their feet and rebuild their strength so they can return home quickly and continue healing.
Within our inpatient oncology units, nursing teams provide compassionate care for patients in active treatment. Patients may also be receiving palliative care to help improve their quality of life.
Our neuro intensive care unit supports patients recovering from neurological events, such as stroke or traumatic brain injury. These patients require the highest level of care from a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes possible.
The nurses in the critical care unit offer care for patients and families facing life-threatening illness or injury. They care for complex medical needs as part of an expert team.
Nurses in the emergency department deliver fast care when it is needed most. Nurses are vital for a smoothly run emergency department, providing expert triage and remaining calm even in stressful situations.
We provide nursing care in a wide range of outpatient ambulatory care settings throughout the region, including:
- Primary care clinics
- Rehabilitation centers
- Specialty clinics
The focus of care in the outpatient ambulatory clinics includes:
- Prevention and early detection of disease
