Nursing Resources

As a University of Miami Health System nurse, you have access to a variety of resources to help you provide outstanding care. From continuing education to the most up-to-date health information, we encourage all nurses to use these resources frequently.

Educational Resources

The department of Hospital, Patient and Community Education is committed to the continued professional development of our nursing staff. The primary goal of the department is to ensure that each individual under Nursing Services is competent to provide direct patient care or support services. They provide innovative and creative educational opportunities to facilitate professional and personal growth. 

The education program consists of various components. The development begins with an individualized competency-based orientation program and continues with planned, regular education offerings to maintain and improve the knowledge of all nursing personnel. Simulation Lab

The University of Miami/Jackson Health System Center for Patient Safety simulation is available to all nurses. The space is equipped with high-fidelity simulators, monitor, crash cart, patient bed and various pieces of equipment to allow nurses to practice critical decision-making skills in a safe, controlled environment. In addition, the simulation is coordinated with physician staff to enhance care team dynamics and communication.

Preceptor Course

This one-day workshop prepares our nurses to become a preceptor for new nurses joining UHealth. The day includes information and role playing on adult learning theory, multi-generational considerations, conflict management, and team dynamics. The new preceptor is coached on their ability to teach and mentor new nurses related to particular situations. Participants in this program are voluntary and express an interest in developing, coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills. Preceptors are reimbursed for their commitment and willingness to assist fellow colleagues become effective nurses. 

Tuition Remission

University of Miami Health System provides financial support to employees who are classified as non-probationary, full-time employees. These employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement benefits if the degree program, certification, or course work clearly provides  benefit to UHealth and the employee.

C.E. Direct

C.E. Direct is offered to all hospital-based nurses and allied health professionals to support continuing education. C.E. Direct is equipped with more than 1,500 award-winning accredited continuing education courses and certification exam reviews.


Lippincott Nursing Solutions provide online, evidence-based learning tools to increase nursing performance, enhance clinical knowledge, standardize care, promote staff competence, and improve patient outcomes. Staff can rely on up-to-date procedures, skills, and references available 24/7.

Library Resources

The Calder Library  is open daily and available online to assist with evidence-based searches and classes. There is an online nursing portal  with resources to support all staff and health professionals.
