The multidisciplinary head and neck oncology team at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center offer advanced treatment for all types of head and neck cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship. Even after your curative treatment is over, we provide comprehensive services to help you live a healthy life.
As a head and neck cancer survivor, it’s important that you attend all your follow-up appointments. You will see your oncology providers regularly for physical exams and/or imaging tests, like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or positron emission tomography (PET) scans . At your follow-up appointments, your doctor will ensure your cancer has not returned and talk to you about any health problems you are experiencing.
During your appointment, you should tell your doctor if you experience any pain, discomfort, or other health issues. Your doctor will also talk to you about important topics like:
- Dental care
- Head and neck cancer treatment side effects
- Smoking and alcohol cessation
- Speech and swallowing rehabilitation
Upon completion of treatment, you will be referred for a survivorship visit. During the visit you will be given a Survivorship Care plan. This is a personalized document that outlines your diagnosis and treatment. Your primary care provider will also be given a copy of the care plan. During this visit, the provider will review resources available to you and healthy living goals. Your Sylvester care team can help you avoid cancer recurrence and enjoy a high quality of life after treatment. You can rely on our support for years after your treatment is complete.
