A quadriceps contusion — also known as a “dead leg” or a “charley horse” — occurs when your leg suffers a hard blow and the muscle is crushed against the thighbone. As a result, the thigh muscle bruises and swells. Other symptoms include pain at the time of the injury and inability to move the muscle normally. This injury can range from mild to severe.
