The surgeons at UHealth Orthopaedics — part of the University of Miami Health System — are experts in their field, who exclusively perform thousands of primary and complex joint replacements each year. Using the most advanced joint replacement approaches available, our experts deliver superior patient outcomes. Our innovative treatment options include minimally invasive hip replacement techniques, patient-specific knee replacements and traditional surgical procedures, all to help you recover faster, experience less post-surgical pain, regain bone and joint function, and enjoy a better quality of life for the long term.
As a testament to UHealth's leading-edge care and adherence to the highest standards of safety, the University of Miami Health System has been recently awarded the Gold Seal of Approval® for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement from The Joint Commission. This nationally recognized symbol of excellence reaffirms our commitment to providing high-quality care in total hip and knee replacement and a dedication to achieving the best outcomes for patients.
We're the first hospital in Florida to use mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR) for hip replacement surgery. MR has been proven to improve accuracy, leading to shorter recovery times.
UHealth's board-certified joint replacement surgeons use computer-assisted, robotic procedures to replace knees, hips, and shoulders. This minimally invasive approach results in a more precise alignment of joint prostheses and a faster, less painful recovery. For patients needing complex revision surgeries, ours is one of the only centers in South Florida that specializes in these challenging procedures, serving as a referral center for other institutions.
With an academic-based approach to diagnosing and treating a variety of orthopedic conditions, UHealth Orthopaedics can offer our patients access to clinical trials with the most advanced treatments, and procedures that may not be available anywhere else.
In most cases, UHealth's joint replacement experts can offer patients outpatient joint replacement surgery. Minimally invasive procedures lessen pain and accelerate recovery, translating into less time spent in the hospital.
Your safety is our priority. That's why we follow a strict prevention plan at every step of your joint replacement journey. Before surgery, you'll receive antibiotics to lower the risk of infection. For patients with higher risk factors, including a positive MRSA nasal swab, we may provide a second antibiotic for added protection. The night before surgery, we ask all patients to shower with a special antibacterial solution (CHG) to reduce germs on the skin. During surgery, your incision is protected in a sterile environment with advanced dressings, some infused with antibiotics or designed with gentle suction to support healing. Together, these measures reduce risk, promote recovery and help ensure the best possible outcome from your joint replacement.
