The Jay Weiss Institute for Health Equity is directed by Dr. Erin Kobetz and Dr. Olveen Carrasquillo.

Erin Kobetz, PhD, MPH

Dr. Kobetz is the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Associate Director for Disparities and Community Outreach and the Program Leader of the Cancer Prevention Control and Survivorship Research Program. She is also Director of the Clinical and Translational Science Initiative (CTSI) Community Engagement and Cultural Diversity Core.

Dr. Kobetz joined the University of Miami in 2004. She has a Ph.D. from the Department of Health Behavior and Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a master’s degree in public health from Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health. Her research uses Community-Based Participatory Research methodologies to address racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in health outcomes. She has received numerous federal, state and foundation grants.

Olveen Carrasquillo, MD, MPH

Dr. Carrasquillo is Professor of Medicine and Public Health Sciences at the UM Miller School of Medicine, Director of the Division of Health Services Research and Policy in the Department of Public Health Sciences, and Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine. He is a Cancer Center Member and director, with Dr. Kobetz, of the CTSI Community Engagement and Cultural Diversity Core.
