The PRMC is responsible for the review of all cancer-related studies originating from any department. This is mandated by the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) – P30.
The committee is responsible for:
- Evaluating study scientific merit, prioritization, and feasibility of protocols involving patients with cancer and those at risk
- Reviewing ongoing progress of interventional protocols
- Promoting unified standards for treatment implementation and translational research
Protocols are categorized into three types of PRMC reviews:
- Exempt Review
- Expedited Review
- Full-Board Review
In addition, the PRMC monitors all active/enrolling research protocols for accrual bi-annually, starting from the date the study is open to accrual/enrollment until the study is closed to accrual.
The PRMC does not require the review of all amendments. All protocol amendments that significantly impact the scientific design of the protocol and have not undergone a previous external scientific review shall be reviewed by the PRMC. The determination whether the modification requires PRMC review shall be made by the PRMC Manager in conjunction with the PRMC Chair.
The PRMC members are experts from relevant scientific disciplines. Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has two PRMCs in order to facilitate timely reviews:
- PRMC – Medical
- PRMC – Population Sciences
