Through Sylvester's Brain Tumor Initiative, we offer our brain cancer expertise to patients who are already being treated by another team or who can’t physically come to our facility. Through this service, we provide care for adult and pediatric patients from throughout Florida, the United States, and Central and South America who want us to review their case. Our team includes pediatric specialists and dedicated pediatric neurosurgeons who only operate on children.
Expert Case Review
Due to our reputation as a best-in-class facility with top diagnostic and treatment options, patients and their care teams value our opinions. Our consultation service offers other care teams outside of health system a chance for a highly specialized, expert opinion. If you have been told that your tumor is inoperable, we can provide a second opinion for further treatment or other options. We can oftentimes provide more additional hope to patients.
If you live out of the state or even country, we can still provide input to your brain tumor case. To do so, we coordinate with you and your health care team to obtain your medical records, including imaging and pathology results. We perform a careful review of your case and send the results and our recommendations to you and your primary oncologist.
Multidisciplinary Tumor Board
Before we operate on a patient and one of our neuro-oncologists treats a patient, our expert team reviews the case at our Tumor Board. Through the Tumor Board, you will receive personalized, multidisciplinary approach that leads to a more pinpointed diagnosis, expanded treatment options, and better outcomes.
Depending on the type of review, we offer different options:
- Comprehensive Review (includes Pathology, Radiology, and Medical Records)
- Standard Review (includes Radiology and Medical Records)
- Additional Review (request can be made to have your records reviewed if new information is now available that was not included in the first review)
The following documentation is required for review of all medical records. Please send the most recent information.
- Physician Medical Summary form detailing your condition and treatment
- Laboratory reports
- Surgical reports
- Pathology reports
