Y-90, or radioembolization, is a procedure that combines embolization (deliberate blocking of blood flow) and radiation therapy to treat liver cancer. The procedure injects tiny beads filled with a radioactive isotope into the blood vessels that feed the tumor, blocking the blood supply to the cancerous cells. While Y-90 isn’t a cure for liver cancer, it can help prolong life and increase quality of life for people with the condition.
The interventional radiology experts at the University of Miami Health System are experienced in performing these complex procedures.
