WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS FOR LUNG CANCER?

  • Smoking cigarettes is the top reason that people develop lung cancer
  • Smoking cigars and pipe
  • Being close to smoke from others (secondhand smoke)
  • Being around radon, a gas that comes from rocks, soil and water — you cannot see, smell or taste it
  • Being around asbestos, arsenic, diesel fumes and other chemicals such as silica and chromium

WHY IS LUNG CANCER SCREENING IMPORTANT?

More lives are lost to lung cancer than to colorectal, breast and prostate cancers combined, making it the leading cause of cancer deaths. But there is hope. When detected early, lung cancer is highly treatable — making screenings extremely important. If lung cancer is caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving 5 years or more improves to 63%.*

  • Have a history of smoking
  • Smoke now or have quit within the past 15 years

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LUNG CANCER SCREENING?

During your screening, you lie comfortably on a table while a CT scan uses a low amount of radiation to take detailed images of your lungs. The whole process is painless and only takes a few minutes.

WHAT IS THE COST OF A LUNG CANCER SCREENING?

Typically, most insurance carriers cover preventive services such as lung cancer screening. However, please check your benefits for specific information on this service. There is also a reduced rate for lung cancer screening for individuals without insurance.
