Pediatric glaucoma, also referred to as childhood glaucoma,is a chronic conditionrequiring careful follow-up and lifelong management after the initial treatment.Under the directorship of Alana L. Grajewski, MD, The Balkan Center has developed a multi-disciplinary approach that supports the diagnosis, treatment, and enduring needs that children with glaucoma may have. Our primary goal is to preserve vision.

Young patients at The Balkan Center are cared for byleading specialists in the fields of pediatric glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, genetics, and more. Patients have access to leading-edge diagnostic technology, surgical treatments, genetic counseling, and clinical care. Genetic counselingand testingis provided through a partnership with the John P.Hussman Institute forHuman Genomics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

In addition, The Balkan Center serves as a hub for internationally collaborative research. Our physicians and scientists are actively conducting research to promote progress in our knowledge of pediatric glaucoma, including genetic research,and advancements in treatment. The Balkan Center administers the Childhood Glaucoma Research Network (CGRN), a global organization comprised of hundreds of physicians and scientists dedicated to the research and treatment of pediatric glaucoma.
