Bascom Palmer Eye Institute serves as the Department of Ophthalmology for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life by improving sight, preventing blindness, and advancing ophthalmic knowledge through compassionate patient care and innovative research.

Bascom Palmer’s scientists and physician-investigators actively search for the causes, preventive measures and most effective treatments for diseases and disorders of the eye. Some current areas of clinical research directly addressing patient care include macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, artificial cornea development and ocular cancer.

Our multidisciplinary research program covers a broad spectrum, from the most basic investigations into the nature of molecules, cells and tissues, all the way to the development of devices for clinical application. We have extended our mission as an umbrella organization uniting all eye and vision researchers at University of Miami and neighboring academic institutions. Research activities have been initiated to enhance the collaborative environment for this multidisciplinary group.

Parking Information

Patient Parking

Bascom Palmer offers free self-parking to patients and visitors at its outdoor, surface parking lot located at the northeast corner of NW 17th Street and NW 9th Avenue.. 

Valet Parking

Valet parking is available at Bascom Palmer in Miami, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The daily valet rate for patients and visitors is $9.00 with validation and $20.00 without validation. The valet staff are available on the front entrance ramp to help patients get into or out of their cars, or help patients with their walkers and/or wheelchairs.
