As a University of Miami Health System patient book cart assistant, you’ll visit patients in their hospital rooms with the book cart and offer reading materials (books, magazines, and puzzle books). You’ll also be responsible for:
- Collecting books from floors once patients are done with them
- Following staff directions and working independently
- Labeling and cataloging all donated and purchased books
- Learning to navigate the hospital independently
- Placing book covers on books
The ideal individual for this role has excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills. They should demonstrate compassion for patient needs and be detail-oriented, adaptable, and flexible.
You must be able to walk without limitations and push a cart weighing up to 50 pounds. Volunteers must commit to one three-hour shift per week.
