There is some overlap between these surgical fields, but each has its distinctions. Oculofacial plastic surgeons specialize in the delicate anatomy of the eye, eye socket, eyelids, brows and forehead, and mid-face. General plastic surgeons treat conditions of the entire body, including the face. Facial plastic surgeons – a subspecialty of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) – have expertise in the nose, lower face, and neck. Certain conditions span multiple areas of expertise and benefit from the care from experts in two or more of these specialties.
