Antonio Ocejo, MD, is a Medical Oncology Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with a clinical and research focus in genitourinary oncology, particularly renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Earned with degree from Universidad de Sonora in Mexico, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he subsequently served as Chief Resident.
His research is centered on understanding the clinical, biologic, and host-related determinants of treatment response and resistance in kidney cancer. His work has included multi-institutional studies evaluating outcomes with immune checkpoint blockade in metastatic clear-cell RCC, investigations of treatment strategies and outcomes in non-clear cell and variant-histology RCC, and translational studies incorporating circulating tumor DNA and immune biomarkers. He is also studying the relationship between diet, the gut microbiome, microbial metabolites, and antitumor immunity in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors, with complementary preclinical work aimed at defining potential mechanistic links between nutritional exposures and treatment response.
Dr. Ocejo is additionally involved in the development of investigator-initiated clinical trials and international collaborative efforts to improve the characterization and treatment of rare kidney cancer subtypes, including a multi-institutional Latin American registry for non-clear cell RCC.
His long-term goal is to establish an academic career as a genitourinary medical oncologist and clinical investigator, integrating prospective clinical trials, translational biomarkers, and biologically informed therapeutic strategies to improve outcomes for patients with kidney cancer.
