Do I have to be a University of Miami Health System patient to use UHealth NOW?
No, a virtual visit is available to anyone, no matter where they are located. We welcome new patients to use UHealth NOW.
What is UHealth NOW?
With UHealth NOW, you can access a doctor from your home, office, or on the go- 24/7/365. Board Certified doctors can visit with you either by phone or secure video to help treat any non-emergency medical conditions. Doctors can diagnose your symptoms, prescribe medication, and send prescriptions to your pharmacy of choice.
Is UHealth NOW appropriate for every medical condition?
No. UHealth NOW is designed to handle non-emergency medical issues. You should not use UHealth NOW if you are experiencing a medical emergency. In case of a medical life threatening emergency, you should dial 911 immediately. While UHealth NOW is not intended to replace your primary care doctor for common or chronic conditions, a virtual doctor's appointment can sometimes substitute a doctor's office, urgent care, or an emergency room visit.
Can I use UHealth NOW for children and adults?
Physicians are able to treat children 2 years and older and all adults via UHealth NOW. For children younger than 2, consider contacting the child's primary care doctor on-call, or for more urgent concerns visit an urgent care or emergency department in person.
What are the most common conditions you treat?
Doctors are trained to treat a wide range of conditions. Some of the most common are:

When can I start using UHealth NOW service?
You can start using UHealth NOW immediately after you sign up and activate your account. Sign up and activation are totally free. You will only be asked for your credit card information after you choose to consult with a provider and your appointment is confirmed.
When is UHealth NOW available?
UHealth NOW is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, even on holidays. Use UHealth NOW anytime you have a non-emergency medical condition, are unable to see your primary care provider, or when you simply prefer a convenient, cost effective alternative to the emergency room, urgent care center, or clinic.
Where is UHealth NOW available?
UHealth NOW is available anywhere in the United States. The network of board certified providers will be provided to you based on the state you are located. MDLIVE makes sure that each provider is fully licensed to practice medicine in your state.
How much does it cost to use UHealth NOW?
Getting started is totally free. If you're receiving UHealth NOW as part of a group benefit, you may not be required to pay at all. If you are required to pay, you will only be charged after you choose to consult with a provider and your appointment time and payment information are confirmed. You can cancel our appointment and receive a full refund, provided that you cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment time. UHealth NOW accepts most major credit and debit cards. The cost of $49 dollars is a flat fee, insurance will not be charged. Patients can submit a claim to their insurance if they wish to pursue reimbursement.
Can UHealth NOW be accessed on mobile devices?
Yes, UHealth NOW can be accessed on most mobile devices with an Internet connection. Our
UHealth NOW Mobile App is available for download in the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store.
Who are the MDLIVE providers?
UHealth NOW has partnered with MDLIVE providers, who are U.S. board certified and able to treat a wide range of patients and conditions.
Following each consultation, our members are given a survey to evaluate their provider and appointment.
The results are analyzed and reviewed for quality assurance and used as part of our continuous improvement process. Selected provider consultations are also reviewed by our internal medical board.
Can a provider prescribe medication as part of a UHealth NOW visit?
Yes, if the provider believes medication is warranted, he or she can write a prescription for non-narcotic medications (i.e. no controlled substances), which can be sent directly to the pharmacy of your choice. As soon your consultation is over, your prescription will be sent electronically to one of over 65,000 pharmacies to choose from. If for any reason your pharmacy is unable to receive e-prescriptions, a traditional prescription is generated for our providers to sign and fax. All prescriptions are fully compliant and include all required information.
Is UHealth NOW safe and private?
Yes, UHealth NOW is safe and private. UHealth NOW is compliant with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and will only share your information with your selected provider and pharmacy.
What system requirements do I need for UHealth NOW videoconferencing?
To use video conferencing you need:
- Windows®7, Vista, or XP
- A Mac running OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or superior.
- Highspeed internet connection
- A webcam with at least 1.3 megapixels
- Microphone (most webcams already have microphone built in)
After you set up an account, you will be able to use a simple online simulation to test your configuration and check if you are ready for a virtual consultation.

What is behavioral virtual care?
With behavioral virtual care, you can see a counselor via video or phone, anywhere and anytime that works for you.
How much does a behavioral virtual care visit cost?
Cost will vary based on insurance and type of visit.
How long is an average behavioral virtual visit?
Visits with a counselor are typically 45 minutes.
How quickly can I get a behavioral virtual visit?
Virtual behavioral services can typically be scheduled within 4-7 days. Once you choose a provider, you can schedule an appointment at a convenient time for you. Many providers offer appointments during daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
Can I schedule recurring behavioral virtual appointments?
Absolutely. Behavioral health services are meant to be ongoing. At the end of your visit, your provider will schedule a follow-up appointment.
What types of providers can I see?
You can select a provider of your choice from our national network of licensed doctoral-level psychologists and master’s level therapists. Each provider is credentialed according to NCQA guidelines and trained on best practices in behavioral virtual care.
Is behavioral virtual care as effective as an in-person visit?
Yes. Your provider will work to understand how you’re currently feeling as well as any important history, what you’d like to accomplish, and then work with you to identify the right treatment plan for you. With virtual care, you have the added conveniences of no travel time and can receive care anywhere.
What if I need a medication?
Therapists cannot prescribe medications.
Are behavioral health providers available on-demand?
No. All behavioral health visits are scheduled in advance.
How do I connect with my therapist?
There are two ways to connect with a therapist - either by video or phone.
