Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

Your surgeon creates a small pouch from the top of the stomach and makes a bypass so that food skips parts of the small intestine. Following the surgery, you will need to supplement your diet with additional vitamins and minerals to compensate for those that will no longer be absorbed by your body.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Your surgeon reduces the size of the stomach by creating a small, sleeve-shaped pouch the size of a banana. The pouch is larger than the one created during the Roux-en-Y procedure, and there is no bypass or re-routing of food through the intestines.

Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS)

The Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch, abbreviated BPD-DS, begins with creation of a tube-shaped stomach pouch similar to the sleeve gastrectomy. It resembles the gastric bypass, where more of the small intestine is not used.

Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy (SADI-S)

The Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy, referred to as the SADI-S is the most recent procedure to be endorsed by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. While similar to the BPD-DS, the SADI-S is simpler and takes less time to perform as there is only one surgical bowel connection.

Revisional Surgery

Sometimes patients regain weight after the initial surgery. If that happens, we offer both laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures to help you continue losing weight and get your health back on track.

No matter which procedure is the right one for you, our multidisciplinary team of highly skilled doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, fitness experts, and patient advocates will work with you to meet your specific pre- and post-operative needs. We’re committed to your successful surgery and long-lasting results.

Why Choose UHealth?

Regional leaders in bariatric surgery. We have received the Healthgrades®  Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award and the Excellence Award for seven years in a row (2012-2018). Our facility is the only one in Miami-Dade County to have received this top honor, meaning you can be assured that you are receiving weight loss surgery at a top hospital. Patients who have weight loss surgery at our facility also show to have a lower risk of experiencing a complication during their hospital stay.

Accredited for our quality. We have been accredited by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as part of their Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. Facilities that have been accredited by this program have undergone a rigorous review process, which includes a thorough assessment of our facility, staff, and standards of care. Achieving this accreditation demonstrates our commitment to excellent patient care and outcomes, our use of the latest proven surgical techniques, and our leadership in the field of bariatrics.
