Infection Prevention in Joint Replacement Surgery
Your safety is our top priority. To lower the risk of infection, we follow a strict prevention plan at every step of your joint replacement journey. Before surgery, you will receive antibiotics to protect against infection, and in certain cases — such as a positive MRSA nasal swab or higher risk factors — we use two antibiotics for extra protection.
During surgery, your incision is carefully covered in a sterile environment using advanced dressings, some with built-in antibiotics or gentle suction (negative pressure) to help keep the wound clean and healing well. We also ask every patient to shower with a special antibacterial solution (chlorhexidine, or CHG) the night before surgery to reduce the number of germs on the skin.
Together, these steps are designed to keep you safe, promote healing, and give you the best possible outcome from your joint replacement.
