We treat patients who have Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, secondary and genetic forms of diabetes, highly complicated diabetes, and diabetes during pregnancy.
A team of specialists manages all aspects of diabetes and any complications, creating a complete and tailored treatment plan for patients that includes:

- Education: Patients will learn to lead healthier lives through diabetes care training, including nutritional counseling.
- High-risk Care: We provide preventive surveillance and interventions for high risk pre-diabetes patients.

The team is led by the Director of the Comprehensive Diabetes Center and Ernesto Bernal-Mizrachi, M.D., Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Our staff includes:

Yes, if you want to consult a specific doctor on our team, you may request his or her name when making an appointment.
Yes. Classes are held at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center and at the Diabetes Research Institute. Each month, many comprehensive diabetes classes are offered in English and in Spanish to patients and families with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Our diabetes education program is ADA certified.
Yes, our ADA-certified diabetes education program includes nutritional counseling by trained nutritionists.
Yes, we perform point of care HbA1c and blood sugar (from finger stick) at the time of your visit. If additional blood tests are required, we have on-site blood draw laboratories.
As an academic medical center, we leverage the latest research completed by the nationally recognized University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to offer the newest treatments—including promising new approaches through clinical trials. You benefit from medical advancements before they’re widely available, provided by leading endocrinology experts who are known worldwide for their expertise.
Our Comprehensive Diabetes Centers are located at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center, 5555 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, at the edge of the University of Miami campus. You may self-park in the dedicated lot adjacent to the facility or utilize our valet parking service. We also have services provided at the UHealth Diabetes Research Institute, 1450 NW 10th Avenue.
