At UHealth Primary Care, we welcome the opportunity to be your healthcare partner, working with you to meet your health and wellness goals. We realize you may have questions about primary care, what our office can provide, how frequently you should come see us, or how you can make an appointment. Let us answer those questions.

Why do I need a UHealth primary care doctor?

Navigating any healthcare system can be complicated. As your primary care providers, we’re here to make it easier. Think of us as your medical “home base” — your guide or advocate. We’re your partner along your health and wellness journey.

Through yearly check-ups and as-needed visits, we monitor your health, help you manage your medications, conduct screening tests, and can make health- and lifestyle-related recommendations.

We’re also your access point to the rest of the UHealth system. If you need additional care from one of UHealth’s more than 1,800 providers, we can provide referrals and help you schedule appointments with a specialist.

What types of providers work in UHealth primary care?

Our team of both adult and pediatric primary care professionals is dedicated to giving you holistic care. This means we focus on your “whole person” — mind, body, and spirit — instead of just treating an illness. Our team will work closely with you and your family to meet your needs and help with your healthcare decisions.

Our vast team includes:

  • Advanced registered nurse practitioners
  • Licensed practical nurses
  • Medical assistants
  • Nutritionists
  • Physicians (doctors), including pediatricians, geriatricians, OB/GYNs, internal medicine, family medicine, and internal medicine-pediatric (med-peds)
  • Social workers

Need help with scheduling an appointment or have insurance questions? We also have expert administrative and financial professionals who can walk you through any process. Please call 305-689-DOCS (3627) for help.

What services do UHealth primary care providers offer?

Whether you have a new health concern or are managing a chronic condition, we’re here for you. We can also determine if you need to see a medical specialist for additional care.

As your healthcare home base and advocate, we will partner with you to provide:

  • Annual check-ups
  • Behavioral health assessments for anxiety and depression
  • Healthy lifestyle coaching, such as guidance on diet, exercise, and smoking cessation
  • Health screenings, such as breast, colon, and prostate cancer screenings
  • Immunizations (childhood and adult)
  • Physicals (back-to-school and sports)
  • Nutritional assessments
  • Women’s health services

Through a long-term primary care relationship, we can monitor your health and identify any changes that may point to a developing problem. By focusing on trying to detect changes in your health early, we can recommend lifestyle changes or treatment options that can improve your health and potentially help you avoid complications.

Do I have to come into the office for an appointment?

No, not necessarily. For some physical exams, we’ll need to see you in one of our offices. However, we offer virtual care (also called telemedicine) for other assessments. In fact, up to 15% of our appointments are done virtually.

Through UHealth Now, you can connect with a board-certified doctor who can make a diagnosis, recommend treatment, prescribe medication, and even evaluate you for potential COVID-19 symptoms.

If it’s more convenient for you or if you’re worried about COVID-19 exposure, call one of our offices to see if you can make an online appointment.

For minor illnesses or injuries, to get a vaccine, or for a quicker physical or well visit, you can make an appointment at a UHealth Clinic at Walgreens location.

How often should I see my UHealth primary care provider?

At a minimum, make an appointment to see your UHealth primary care provider once a year. It’s your opportunity to talk about any new health concerns, ask questions about your medication, or schedule any age-appropriate screenings.

Of course, we’re available to help at any time with same-day or immediate care appointments if you get sick or if your chronic condition changes. Don’t hesitate to call us.
