The University of Miami School Health Initiative (SHI) was founded in the year 2000 with the mission to integrate healthcare and education for children and adolescents experiencing barriers to receiving adequate medical care.  The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Miami currently serves approximately 10,000 students annually, spanning nine public schools in Miami-Dade County.

The School Health Initiative is a member of Health Connect in our Schools, through collaborations with The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and the Miami-Dade County Health Department.

Mission 

The mission of our program is to provide integrated high-quality comprehensive school health services, acute care, and preventative healthcare services to meet the unique needs of the school community we currently serve while promoting lifelong healthy living and learning. We also serve as a national advocate for school health, while educating our students in areas of health information, and our service-learners to ensure the future of health care delivery.
