The University of Miami Center for COPD and Asthma Care and Research is a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary facility located at the University of Miami Health System. We focus on managing chronic respiratory diseases that affects the airways, particularly asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and bronchiectasis.
We provide the highest quality of health care to South Florida’s diverse population. As the only university-based breathing disorder clinic in the region, leading-edge patient care is delivered by internationally recognized leaders in the field.

Who We Are
We are a team of physician-scientists that focus on diagnosis and treatment of different airway disorders including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and bronchiectasis. Our group consists of internationally recognized leaders in the field with active research from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and Florida Department of Health.
Diagnostic testing available includes computed tomography, pulmonary function testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, methacholine challenge test, and genetic testing. We also offer advanced airways disease management including biologic therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, endobronchial valve placement, lung volume reduction surgery, and lung transplant for those who qualify.
Our providers are affiliated with University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, UHealth Tower, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare system.

Our Specialists
SIXTO ARIAS, M.D.
Dr. Arias is an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine with over 20 years of expertise in interventional pulmonology, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine. After graduating from Universidad El Bosque medical school in 2001 he completed an internal medicine residence at the Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center in 2009. He then completed his Pulmonary fellowship with Yale University/Bridgeport Hospital in 2011 followed by his Critical Care Medicine fellowship in 2012 and a Pulmonary fellowship with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2015.
His clinical and research interests are interventional bronchoscopy including diagnosis of lung cancer and endobronchial valve treatment for COPD.

Michael Campos, M.D.
Dr. Campos is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He received both his bachelor’s degree in biology and medical degree from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru and completed his training in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and pulmonary medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami, FL in 2003.
Dr.Campos research interests include alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, COPD, asthma, airway biology, the lung microbiome and the deleterious effects of vaping in the lung. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the American Lung Association, the State of Florida and has participated in many clinical studies with pharmaceutical companies.

Trishul Siddharthan, M.D., FCCP
Dr. Siddharthan is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Siddharthan received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a diplomate in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine.
Dr. Siddharthan’s expertise includes advanced therapies and diagnostics for COPD and asthma including functional imaging, biologic therapy, and endobronchial valve evaluation. His research interests include assessing ventilation and perfusion in COPD and asthma and pharmacotherapy for COPD among nonsmokers and has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the CHEST Foundation and Department of Defense to support his work.

Adam Wanner, M.D.
Dr. Wanner is Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He graduated from Med Fac U Basel medical school in 1966. Dr. Wanner has over 55 years of experience in the medical field. He is an international recognized leader in Pulmonary Medicine. Has served as Division Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has been president of the American Thoracic Society and Scientific Director for the Alpha-1 Foundation among other important leadership positions.

Lisa Arbach is a family nurse practitioner with more than 10 years of nursing experience. Her professional experience includes pediatric allergy, immunology, gastroenterology, and NICU, as well as lactation consulting.
