The University of Miami Center for COPD and Asthma Care and Research is a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary facility located at the University of Miami Health System. We focus on managing chronic respiratory diseases that affects the airways, particularly asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and bronchiectasis.

We provide the highest quality of health care to South Florida’s diverse population. As the only university-based breathing disorder clinic in the region, leading-edge patient care is delivered by internationally recognized leaders in the field.

Our expertise allows us to deliver the latest advances in testing and treatment that improve quality of life and clinical outcomes. Our team also works closely with specialists in other areas including allergy and immunology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, respiratory therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy to bring patients the highest level of coordinated care possible.

Who We Are

We are a team of physician-scientists that focus on diagnosis and treatment of different airway disorders including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and bronchiectasis. Our group consists of internationally recognized leaders in the field with active research from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and Florida Department of Health.

Diagnostic testing available includes computed tomography, pulmonary function testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, methacholine challenge test, and genetic testing. We also offer advanced airways disease management including biologic therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, endobronchial valve placement, lung volume reduction surgery, and lung transplant for those who qualify.

Our providers are affiliated with University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, UHealth Tower, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare system.

  • 6-minute walk test
  • Chest imaging, including low-dose CT scan for lung cancer
  • Diagnostic bronchoscopy
