Does insurance cover UHealth Virtual Clinic visits?
Your virtual visit will be billed to your insurance company, the same way an in-person visit would be billed. Please review your health plan for benefit coverage.
How does the Virtual Clinic work?
The Virtual Clinic allows patients to “meet” with a health care provider remotely, through a secure platform, for a video chat. If your provider recommends an in-person follow-up, we will help schedule your appointment.
How do I schedule a virtual visit?
UHealth Virtual Clinic appointments may be scheduled by calling 305-243-4000, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. You may also complete an online request form at UMiamiHealth.org/VirtualClinics.
What services are available in the Virtual Clinic?
Many services you normally receive during an in-person visit can be done via telehealth Virtual Clinic phone conversations. These include:
- COVID-19 screening discussions
- New patient visits
- Consultations
- Follow-up visits
- Discuss test results
- Get a second opinion
Will my regular healthcare provider be on the call?
Yes, you will see your assigned provider.
How long does a virtual visit video call take?
The length of your virtual visit appointment depends on the healthcare provider and specialty. Please inquire when scheduling your appointment.
What equipment do I need?
You will need an internet-enabled device with a camera and a microphone. You can use a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer for this purpose. Patients will be required to have a MyUHealthChart account and must download the Zoom video conferencing software on their phone, computer, or tablet prior to the appointment.
What age of patient can be seen with Virtual Clinics?
All ages of patients can be seen in our Virtual Clinics, with the exception of UHealth Clinics at Walgreens. These virtual visits are available for patients 18 months and older.
How do I get my after-visit summary?
Your after-visit summary is available through your MyUHealthChart account. Please log into your account, select appointments, and you will see all of your past appointments.
Can I receive prescriptions from my virtual visit?
Yes. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy of choice. You will not receive a paper prescription.
Can I ask a friend or relative to assist me if I do not own or understand the technology?
Yes, we encourage you to have a family member or friend who can assist you if you will be needing assistance.
How is my privacy protected?
The University of Miami Health System uses a special version of Zoom known as Zoom for Healthcare, which is integrated within our “UChart” electronic medical record platform. UChart secures telemedicine Zoom sessions through advanced encryption and restricted link distribution.
