Established in 2000, the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation School Health Initiative (SHI) supports children who have limited access to healthcare. Every year, SHI serves approximately 35,000 students across 36 public schools in Miami-Dade County. As a part of the Health Connect in our Schools program, SHI is backed by The Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation, The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and the Miami-Dade County Health Department.
Mission
The mission of our program is to provide integrated high-quality comprehensive school health services, acute care, mental health and preventative healthcare services to meet the unique needs of the school community we currently serve while promoting lifelong healthy living and learning. We also serve as a national advocate for school health, while educating our students in areas of health information, and our service-learners to ensure the future of health care delivery.
The School Health Initiative program is sponsored by The Children’s Trust and the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation.
