There are several kinds of stomach cancer. The phrase stomach cancer usually refers to what is called gastric cancer. Gastric cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the lining of the stomach and begin growing and potentially spreading. Adenocarcinoma is the most common gastric tumor. An estimated 26,000 new cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.
