Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (Sylvester) delivers leading-edge patient care by the region’s best doctors, powered by the groundbreaking research and medical education of the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. As South Florida’s only recognized Cancer Center of Excellence, Sylvester is a vital component supporting the local community.
Locations
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is comprised of multiple locations, all within a 35 miles radius from Sylvester’s main location in Miami. These include locations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
Technologies
Sylvester became only the fourth facility in the U.S. and the first on the east coast to acquire an MRI-guided radiation therapy system from ViewRay Inc. The MRIdian system is the first FDA-cleared system of its kind and provides a unique combination of simultaneous radiation therapy delivery and continuous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the treatment of cancer.
Sylvester also became the first location in the Eastern United States to be equipped with the Ablatherm robotic high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) device, which is used for prostate tissue removal.
Groundbreaking for the Varian ProBeam Compact proton therapy system is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2018. The installation of the ProBeam system provides another key option for Sylvester’s team of highly specialized radiation oncologists.
Above all else, we are committed to reducing the burden from cancer and other serious illnesses through research, education, prevention, and the delivery of quality patient care.
Sylvester's Patient Geographic Representation
Sylvester has international patients that come from a total of 84 countries, with the highest volumes from the Bahamas, Ecuador, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic.
