For those seeking treatment for signs of aging, our team can perform several surgical procedures to help you look and feel your best, including facelifts, eyelid surgery, neck lifts, and more. We aim for natural-appearing, aesthetically pleasing results that maintain the harmony of all structures on your face.
Facelifts
These procedures involve pulling back the deeper tissues on either side of the face to reduce sagging skin and smooth folds of skin on the face. We routinely perform deep-plane facelifts and are experts in the anatomy of the face, head, and neck to ensure the best possible results for our patients. We tailor each surgical plan specific to your goals to obtain the best possible result with minimal downtime.
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery
This can be used for sagging or excess skin, herniated fat, and muscle in the upper and lower eyelids. Care is taken to evaluate the exact structures that need repositioning or removal to give you the most youthful appearance. Sagging eyebrows and eyelids may obstruct vision and cause functional vision loss, which can also be corrected.
Browlift surgery
If you have sagging eyebrows that are causing a tired or stern appearance to your face, this procedure may help. Sagging eyebrows can also contribute to obscured vision in certain individuals. There are various approaches to browlift surgery, and we perform the spectrum of approaches, from endoscopic to direct browlift, depending on patient needs and goals.
Aging face surgery can be combined with facial rejuvenation procedures to obtain the best aesthetic and cosmetic results.
Who is a Candidate for Aging Face Surgery?
Individuals looking to reduce the signs of aging are candidates. However, you may not be a good candidate for surgery if you:
- Are pregnant.
- Are a smoker or use nicotine products
- Have gained or lost a significant amount of weight recently.
- Have certain chronic medical conditions, like high blood pressure or heart disease.
If you are unsure, visit your primary care physician prior to consultation with the facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons.
What to Expect?
Before your surgery
You will meet with your physician to discuss the procedure and your aesthetic goals. You will also discuss the use of anesthesia. Depending on the procedure and your preferences, you may receive general anesthesia (where an anesthesiologist will put you in a sleep-like state) or local anesthesia (where your provider will numb the affected area only).
During the procedure
Your surgeon will make incisions (cuts) in your skin. Depending on the surgery, your surgeon will adjust and sculpt the skin or muscles of your face. They may also remove fat from under the skin to achieve your goals. In select individuals, facial rejuvenation techniques can be combined with these surgeries at the time of surgery. Drainage tubes may be placed to help divert excess fluid. Your surgeon will remove any excess skin before closing the incision with sutures (stitches). Then, to promote healing, they will cover the area with bandages to provide pressure.
After the procedure
You may experience pain, swelling, bruising, or numbness in the area affected. You will need to rest your face, including limiting laughing or smiling during your recovery. Cold packs or pain relievers will help ease any discomfort.
The day after your procedure, you will meet with your surgeon to evaluate the incisions and remove any drainage tubes for facelifts. After about a week, you’ll return to remove any stitches.
In the months after the procedure, you will need to have follow up visits to ensure the affected area is healing properly and the procedure achieved your aesthetic goals.
