About Our Services

How do you help someone with severe memory loss?
The first step is finding out the cause of the problem, which might be related to a neurological or medical condition. Our team draws on our clinical experience as well as our advanced technology to determine the cause of memory loss. My mother has other medical problems as well as memory loss.

What should I do?
When people have several medical problems, it is very important to go to a program with specialists in different fields. That is the best way to ensure that the patient gets the best possible care for all conditions.

How do you treat memory loss?
The nature of the treatment depends on the cause of the condition and the severity of the memory loss. Today, there are a number of drugs that can help individuals with memory loss and many new medications are now being developed (see our Clinical Trials page).

Can memory loss be reversed?
Yes, there are patients that respond to treatment with improvement in their memory. With each patient, we determine what is the best course of treatment and the most likely outcome. What about diet and nutrition? Some studies indicate certain foods or supplements may be helpful in patients with memory loss. This is an area of ongoing research at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
