Who we are

The Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) clinic is staffed by board-certified pediatricians who specialize in learning, behavior, and child development.

What we do

We interview families, review previous records, and ask families and teachers to complete standardized forms. During a telehealth visit or an in-person visit to the Mailman Center, we observe child behavior and interview older children. Our goal is to help families understand why a child may have difficulty with learning or behavior (diagnosis), and how best to help their child thrive (treatment).

Who we serve

We serve children ages 0-18.

Common conditions leading to difficulties in school or home that may lead to a Developmental Screening Clinic visit include:

  • attention deficit disorder (ADHD)
  • autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • developmental coordination disorder (DCD)
  • dyslexia or other learning disorders
  • emotional disorders
  • fine or gross motor disabilities
  • hearing or vision deficits
  • social disorders
  • speech or language delays
  • complex medical conditions that affect a child’s learning or behavior
Who should be referred to DBP?
  • a child who fails a grade or is constantly struggling in school
  • a child who has difficulty communicating or speaking
  • a child who finds reading to be especially difficult
  • a child who frequently has trouble with a teacher or peers
  • a child who is required to attend summer school
  • a child who has a developmental delay
  • a child whose parents or teachers believe should be doing better in school

Costs

Our scheduling/registration team works with the family’s insurance, whether Medicaid, Florida Healthy Kids, or a commercial health insurance plan to cover the costs of visits to our clinic. Co-pays and deductibles depend on a family’s insurance. We also encourage families to also contact their insurance company directly to verify coverage and to determine how much you will be expected to pay on the day of the evaluation.

Where we are located
