Examples of this multidisciplinary approach include our pediatric brain tumor, craniofacial/craniosynostosis, pediatric vascular, spina bifida, and combined neuroscience teams. This multidisciplinary approach includes access to the latest research advances to facilitate the next steps after surgery with a precision medicine approach to treating your child's tumor. To this end, we are delighted to now offer all pediatric brain tumor patients molecular profiling of their tumor as well as the potential to grow their tumor in our laboratories to test treatments on their specific tumor cells.
Our Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Dr. Heather McCrea, is board certified in neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery. Additionally, she is the only pediatric neurosurgeon in Miami trained in flexible endoscopy in addition to rigid endoscopy. By using rigid or flexible endoscopy, when appropriate, this allows your child to undergo a more minimally invasive surgery. Endoscopy may be used to treat hydrocephalus, brain and pituitary tumors, arachnoid cysts, and craniosynostosis.
