Prioritizing Your Breast Health at Every Stage of Life

Our multidisciplinary team of breast health specialists includes radiologists, breast surgeons, breast oncologists from Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and nurse coordinators. We work together to provide a comprehensive approach to your breast health, ensuring that each patient receives the highest quality care in a supportive and compassionate environment.

Ages 18 – 39: Prioritizing Prevention and Education

For women between the ages of 18 and 39, our Breast Health Services focus on preventive care, education, and early detection, including:

  • Clinical breast exams and risk assessments
  • Education on breast self-examination techniques
  • Personalized screening recommendations based on risk factors and family history
  • Genetic counseling and testing, if appropriate
  • Support for managing benign breast conditions, such as fibroadenomas or cysts

Ages 40 – 50: Addressing Midlife Breast Health Changes

As you approach midlife, you may encounter changes in breast health due to hormonal fluctuations and other factors. Our Breast Health Services for women between the ages of 40 and 50 include:

  • Annual mammography screening, as recommended by your doctor
  • Clinical breast exams and personalized risk assessments
  • Support for managing breast health concerns related to hormonal changes, such as breast pain or density
  • Genetic counseling and testing, if appropriate
  • Coordination of care with specialty services, as needed

Ages 50 and Over: Supporting Healthy Aging and Ongoing Care

For women aged 50 and over, we focus on helping you maintain optimal breast health through early detection, and address any emerging breast health issues, including:

  • Continued annual mammography screening, as recommended by your doctor
  • Clinical breast exams and personalized risk assessments
  • Support for managing postmenopausal breast health concerns, such as breast atrophy or calcifications
  • Genetic counseling and testing, if appropriate
  • Coordination of care with specialty services, as needed

Breast Exam and Screening Recommendations by Age

Breast health needs can vary based on age. To help maintain optimal breast health, it's imperative to follow specific recommendations based on your age group.

For women aged 18-39, it's recommended to:

  • Develop self-awareness of your breast tissue
  • Get clinical breast exams every one-three years
  • Discuss breast cancer risk with your doctor
  • Consider baseline mammography at age 35, if there is an increased risk

For women aged 40-49, in addition to the above recommendations, it's also recommended to:

  • Develop self-awareness of your breast tissue
  • Get yearly mammograms
  • Get clinical breast exams annually
  • Discuss breast cancer risk with your doctor
  • Consider breast MRI if at high risk of developing breast cancer

For women aged 50 and above, it's important to:

  • Develop self-awareness of your breast tissue
  • Continue with yearly mammograms
  • Get clinical breast exams annually
  • Consider breast MRI if at high risk of developing breast cancer
  • Discuss the need for additional screening tests with your doctor
  • Be aware of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer
