Hematologic cancers begin in blood-forming tissue. They usually form in the bone marrow or cells of the immune system. Also called blood cancer, they include leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myelomas.

Someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer about every four minutes in America. There are more than 200,000 new cases each year. If you have a diagnosis of a blood cancer, you have immediate access to South Florida's most experienced team with the best patient outcomes. Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center's team of cancer physician-experts are members of one of the nation's top academic cancer centers. Our single focus is the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

Why Choose Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center?

Sylvester is an NCI-designated cancer center. The National Cancer Institute has recognized Sylvester for its outstanding work conducting research in its laboratories, treating patients in its clinics and hospitals, and reaching out to medically underserved communities with innovative prevention strategies.

The Cancer Epigenetics (CE) Research Program was established in 2014 at Sylvester and has become one of the leading programs in the country, actively translating discoveries into clinical trials. Its goal is to incorporate basic and clinical research in the field of cancer epigenetics. The program focuses on identifying epigenetic mechanisms regulating cancer initiation and progression. It also launches tailored epigenetic therapies to treat cancer, testing them in pre-clinical and clinical studies. The collaborative CE investigators are working to pinpoint the factors that contribute to the probability, progression, treatment, and ultimately, cure of your cancer. By identifying these mechanisms, they can get new targeted treatments to the clinical area faster.
