The Autopsy Speciality Pathologists are known for their expertise in arriving at routine and complicated cases.
Initiate an Autopsy Request by calling Pathology Customer Care at 305-243-7284.
You will be provided three forms which must be completed to request an Autopsy:
- Pathology Autopsy Intake Form
- Autopsy Consent Form
- University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital request for Autopsy Service
Important Notes
- Autopsies for a body of 250lbs and above will incur additional charges
- In the case of a stillborn, the placenta is required for examination
- A preliminary report will be available within 2 days and the final report within 8 weeks for uncomplicated cases
- Please note that if Neuropathology workup is requested, the preliminary report will be available within about 4 weeks from sample collection
- Please provide the most detailed copy of the medical records on the deceased, they must obtain them from the Facility/PCP before autopsy can be performed
- The autopsy cannot be completed until we receive detailed medical records for the deceased, which can be obtained from the Facility and/or PCP
- The family is responsible for transportation of the body to and from the JMH Morgue (Room B040J), which needs to be coordinated through a Funeral Home and the Jackson Morgue Staff (305-585-8599). Any additional charges for transportation are between the requesting party and the Funeral Home.
- We do not perform toxicology studies.
- We do not routinely perform molecular genetic pathology studies.
- We do not always find a cause of death but will do our best to do so.
