The Office of Education and Training at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center supports the application and management of cancer-focused training grants in several ways. We offer grant workshops, resources and support for the application process. We also offer post-award management for selected training grants.
Grant workshops sponsored by our office are held at least annually for those desiring to understand the components of the mentored grants like NIH F-type (fellowship), K-type (Individual career development) training grant awards, NSF career awards and DOD post-doctoral awards. The two day workshops cover such topics as funding opportunities, what really matters in the review process, fundamentals of successful grant writing, specific aims, the approach section, selling yourself and how to help your mentor/sponsor design a compelling training program for you. Grant workshops and other information and support are also available at the University of Miami through the Office of Research.
The Office of Education and Training also offers resources and support for the application process for T32 training grants. The Office will work with the PI after a faculty roster has been developed to gather data for all of the required data tables and to provide copy of UM and Sylvester resources and facilities. We work in coordination with Sylvester’s Office of Grants and Contracts to submit a competitive grant.
Once a T32 award has been made, the Office of Education and Training at Sylvester supports the management of the day-to-day activities of the program. These activities include xTrain appointments and terminations, financial transactions including stipends, tracking student status, evaluations, progress reports and documentation of program activities such as meetings, retreats, journal clubs, etc.
