Greeter Patient Liaison - Bascom Palmer Eye Institute

As a University of Miami Health System greeter/patient liaison, you’ll serve in a variety of capacities to provide exceptional customer service to our patients, visitors, and staff members. You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting patients with getting on and off the elevator
  • Assisting patients in the main lobby with their transportation needs
  • Greeting patients and family members
  • Guiding patients to correct departments
  • Patrolling hallways and lobbies throughout the hospital and assisting patients
  • Transporting patients to and from test sites, physicians’ offices, and lobbies via wheelchair

UHealth staff members may sometimes ask you to complete other duties, such as:

  • Assisting patients with making phone calls
  • Assisting with the care and entertainment of children
  • Making up stretchers
  • Obtaining blankets, pillows, and other items
  • Offering diversionary activities to patients
  • Retrieving supplies
  • Retrieving wheelchairs
  • Transporting lab specimens (specimens collected by RNs only)

The ideal person for this role should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and compassion for patient needs. The volunteer should be able to learn to navigate the hospital independently and follow directions that staff members give.

You must be able to walk and stand without limitations, as well as push patients in wheelchairs. Volunteers must commit to one three-hour shift per week.
