  • Assisting patients with getting on and off the elevator
  • Helping patients in the main lobby with their transportation and escort needs
  • Patrolling hallways and lobbies throughout the hospital and assisting patients, visitors, and staff members as needed
  • Transporting patients to and from test sites, physician’s offices, and lobbies via wheelchair

Other duties that staff members may ask you to perform include:

  • Assisting patients with making phone calls
  • Caring for and entertaining children
  • Making up stretchers
  • Obtaining blankets, pillows, and other items
  • Offering diversionary activities to patients
  • Retrieving supplies
  • Retrieving wheelchairs
  • Transporting lab specimens (specimens collected by RNs only)

You must be able to walk without limitations and push patients in wheelchairs. Volunteers must commit to one three-hour shift a week.
