Research

Many tumors lower the pH of their microenvironment to promote growth and survival. However, the effects of these pH changes are poorly understood. The Isom Lab is focused on understanding how such pH changes regulate G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), the largest and most therapeutically targeted class of cell surface receptors in humans (having more than 800 members). The long-term objective of this research is to understand and exploit the emergent behaviors of GPCR signaling systems in tumors to develop more effective cancer therapeutics.
