Volunteer Tasks
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff members.
- Visit and greet inpatient rooms and outpatient clinics and offer pet therapy to interested patients and loved ones.
- Socialize with patients, families, and staff.
- Alert staff of complaints or unusual situations.
- Maintain a written log of all assignments, times, and comments (when applicable).
Volunteer Training Provided
In addition to standard UHealth new volunteer training, volunteers will receive orientation to floors where volunteers will visit, and a review of Infection Control precautions.
Procedure
- Pet therapy may be provided to patients, visitors, and staff in designated areas by trained dogs and handlers.
- Only dogs and handlers registered with this program may participate.
- Handler and pet must be a certified Pet Therapy Team.
- Pet Therapy Teams must be members, in good standing, with Canine Assisted Therapy or Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
- To participate, patients must meet criteria as determined by the Pet Therapy Clinical Criteria Checklist and have no contraindications for visitation.
- Visits do not occur in precaution patient rooms or with patients who are immuno-compromised.

Must be able to walk without limitation.
