Community Grants

The JWI Community Grant Award Program offers funding for community organizations in Southeast Florida to conduct pilot projects that address our mutual goals of increasing awareness of cancer related topics. The 2016 & 2015 awardees and their projects are listed below.

2016 Grants

Camillus Health

Offer education and free colorectal cancer screening using FIT for adults receiving health care at the Camillus House primary care clinic.

Florida International University, Stemple College of Public Health & Social Work

Breast health and breast cancer education through faith-based organizations in Broward County.

Gilda’s Club of South Florida

Education about cancer prevention and screening for women who partner with women.

Health Education, Prevention and Promotion, Inc.

Provide cancer education at adult education centers in Broward County.

SSJ Health Foundation, Inc.

Offer education free colorectal cancer screening using FIT for adults receiving health care at the San Juan Bosco primary care clinic.

 

2015 Grants

Camillus Health Concern

Increase access to colorectal cancer screening among persons experiencing homelessness in Miami Dade County as part of comprehensive health care offered by Camillus Health Concern.

Fundación Mision REMA

Provide education and increase cancer screening through the health fairs, seminars and workshops, and assist cancer patients with basic financial necessities such as rent, food and medicine.

Haitian Neighborhood Center, Sant La Inc.http://www.santla.org/

Increase knowledge about cancer and health screenings, good health habits, and healthy lifestyles such as nutrition and physical activity among Miami-Dade County’s Haitian population through television and radio.

SSJ Health Foundation, Inc.

Increase awareness of cancer prevention and screening among patients at the San Juan Bosco free clinic through videos and printed education material in the clinic’s patient waiting room.

The Beautiful Gate Cancer Support & Resource Center, Inc.

Provide educational resources and psychosocial support through support groups and a variety of activities and workshops.
