Research Focus

Dr. Abreu is a gastroenterologist who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and a scientist who has had extensive training during my research-based gastroenterology fellowship. At this stage in her career, she wants to invest her passion and experience to train successful academic physician-scientists and Ph.D. scientists in gastroenterology and hepatology. She has more than 20 years of leadership experience in basic, translational and clinical research and mentoring. Dr. Abreu is a nationally and internationally renowned physician-scientist in IBD and one of few academicians who has extensive experience in clinical IBD as well as basic science. Her teaching activities are wide-reaching and include teaching graduate students and medical students in traditional didactic and small group sessions in gastroenterology and immunology. She has students rotate in her laboratory and train them in scientific reasoning and methods.
