Oncology social work services at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center can help you address the challenges to everyday life due to a cancer diagnosis throughout the survivorship journey. Our oncology social workers are part of a multi-disciplinary team using a collaborative approach to address patient care needs. Our social workers are trained in oncology, knowledgeable about cancer resources, and connect patients and caregivers to the appropriate community programs.
The oncology social workers are licensed practitioners and have a master’s degree in social work. They have completed extensive training in mental health and provide short-term counseling services. The role of the oncology social worker is to support the patients navigate their cancer experience and receive supportive care needs. They also facilitate various types of support groups for patients, and caregivers creating a safe environment. The oncology social worker can evaluate areas of distress that are affecting your everyday life and provide tailored interventions throughout your care.
