Laparoscopic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery that uses a few small incisions and specialized tools, including a laparoscope. A laparoscope is a specialized camera that your surgeon inserts through an small incision to see inside the body during surgery. Laparoscopic surgeries have faster recovery times and fewer risks of pain and scarring than traditional, open surgeries.
At the University of Miami Health, our surgeons perform innovative laparoscopic procedures to help patients receive effective surgical care with fewer risks. Through the Center of Excellence for Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery, our surgeons conduct research to improve surgical care and teach other surgeons from around the globe how to perform these procedures. Due to our advanced skills and expertise, you have more surgical treatment options than ever before.
