What to Expect During Your Child's Ear Infection Visit
We make visits easy, fast, and family-friendly. Here’s what typically happens:
- Check-in: We’ll ask you about symptoms and health history. We may check your child’s weight, height, blood pressure, and temperature.
- Examination: Providers will review your child’s condition and health information. They may ask if your child has been sick recently. Your provider will use a lighted instrument (otoscope) to look inside your child’s ears to see if there is fluid buildup or signs of infection, such as swelling or redness around the eardrum.
- Diagnosis: We will let you know if it’s an ear infection. If the diagnosis isn’t clear, providers may refer you to a specialist for further evaluation.
- Treatment: If your child is diagnosed with an ear infection, common treatments include antibiotics, eardrops, and over-the-counter medications.
You can fill your prescription at Walgreens or purchase any additional medications or supplies without making an extra stop. We can also send prescriptions to another pharmacy, if you prefer.
Common Questions About Pediatric Ear Infections
What causes ear infections?
They often follow colds or allergies. Kids are more prone due to ear structure and developing immune systems.
Will my child need antibiotics?
Not always, mild infections sometimes clear up on their own. We follow AAP guidelines to avoid unnecessary medication.
If your provider diagnoses a severe ear infection, your child will need antibiotics for seven to 10 days. Continue the medication even after symptoms subside to ensure full healing, reduce the risk of recurrence, and prevent antibiotic resistance.
Can I walk in, or do I need an appointment?
Both options are available but scheduling online may help minimize wait time.

What should I bring to the visit?
Bring your insurance card, photo ID, and any relevant medical history. Arrive early for new patient paperwork.
Will insurance cover the visit?
We accept most insurance plans and offer affordable self-pay rates. Costs depend on your plan, including co-pays and other details. Contact your insurer to check current coverage.
What if my child has recurring ear infections?
If needed, we may refer you to a pediatric ENT for additional evaluation or discuss ear tubes. Your provider can talk with you about whether these or other therapies may be right for your child.
