Testing & Evaluation

Electrodiagnostic tests
Electrodiagnostic tests measure the electrical activity around your muscles and nerves. By doing this, our experts are able to determine if you have is nerve damage, what the cause of the damage may be, and if you are responding to treatment. Electromyography or EMG, analyzes the health of your muscles and nerves that control the muscles while they are at rest and during muscle contraction.

Radiology
During the past decade, there have been significant increases in the clinical applications of musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound due to several inherent advantages. Sonography does not involve radiation or iodinated contrast material and is a safe alternative for pregnant patients, claustrophobic patients, children, patients with medial implants (e.g. pacemakers), and patients with severe contrast allergies. Because of the dynamic real-time nature of sonography, a more targeted examination can be performed which is tailored specifically for each patient. This results in increased diagnostic effectiveness and decreased patient discomfort.

Ultrasound imaging is a cost-effective test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Ultrasound images are captured in real-time, so they show the structure and movement of joints and tendons, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

Our radiologists are fellowship-trained and certified in MSK ultrasound, and have created an innovative, university-based research, diagnostic, and treatment center to treat patients across South Florida.

Bone Density Scanning (DEXA Scanning)
When it comes to developing bone loss or osteoporosis, female athletes especially are at risk. DEXA, or dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, is the most common test for measuring bone mineral density – and the most accurate way to diagnosis conditions such as osteopenia or osteoporosis. DEXA scans are more accurate than X-rays and patients are exposed to less radiation than through CAT scans or radiographic absorptiometry.
