A quadriceps contusion — also known as a “dead leg” or a “charley house” — occurs when your leg suffers a hard blow and the muscle is crushed against the thighbone. As a result, the thigh muscle bruises and swells. Other symptoms include pain at the time of the injury and inability to move the muscle normally. This injury can range from mild to severe.
You should use the RICE method, which includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation, while you’re at home.
In some cases, your health care provider will prescribe rehabilitation therapy. Our physical therapists establish a unique plan of care that includes specific interventions for your condition and situation to help alleviate pain and improve mobility.
Your doctor will conduct a complete physical examination and collect your health history to help make the diagnosis.
