As a University of Miami Health System summer high school volunteer, you can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life — just by being there. Whether you want to give back to your community, meet new people, learn new skills, or see what it is like to work in health care, volunteering is a rewarding experience.
The summer program begins 6/20/2024 and ends 8/2/2024.
You may be responsible for:
- Assisting patients getting on and off the elevator
- Assisting patients in the main lobby with their transportation needs
- Guiding patients to the correct departments
- Providing exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff members
- Patrolling hallways and lobbies throughout the hospital and assisting patients
- Socializing with the patients
- Providing general support by getting water, snacks, and blankets to those in need
- Providing administrative support to staff
- Restocking supplies, as needed
The ideal student for this role has excellent interpersonal skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills. They should demonstrate compassion for patient needs and be detail-oriented, adaptable, and flexible. They should be able to follow directions and work independently.
APPLICATION/PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- Applications are available as of 2/1/2024
- Applications will be accepted 2/1/2024 – 4/1/2024
- Applications close 4/1/2024, end of day
- Students must be 16 years old or older when application is submitted
- Volunteer hours:
- Five-week commitment, 4-6 hours per day up to 20 hours per week depending on availability at time of interview.
- New Volunteer Orientation (NVO) event:
- On Zoom (by invitation only) from 3 - 4 p.m. on 5/1/2024
- To attend NVO:
- All required documentation including (background check, health documentation, ID, parental consent forms and training) must be completed and submitted no later than 4/15/2024
