Clinical Engineering

The Clinical Engineering program will encompass a comprehensive approach to managing biomedical, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory equipment; whether in a hospital, clinic, laboratory, or research environment. The program will focus on the quality of care, customer service, and patient safety – with a commitment to excellence, reliability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.

Operating Room Equipment UHealth clinical engineers are some of the best trained medical equipment specialists in their field. All technicians undergo a rigorous background and technical competency verification prior to service of any medical equipment – ensuring that all medical equipment are maintained and serviced to manufacturer’s specifications.

UHealth clinical engineers will work with your department leadership to develop appropriate service strategies for each piece of equipment in their area. These strategies will be based on equipment category, age, and usage as well as on desired availability, replacement part cost, and other factors.

The clinical engineering computerized maintenance management system (Medimizer) maintains detailed equipment maintenance inventories, records, and schedules —and provides the documentation required for compliance purposes, including The Joint Commission (TJC), The Agency For Health Care Administration (AHCA), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

PHI/PII Policy

In March of 2016, the University of Miami signed into action a policy overseeing the proper acquisition and disposal of medical equipment in reference to PHI/PII containment.
