Who we are

The Cleft Lip/Cleft Palate Program offers comprehensive care for children with cleft lip or cleft palate by a team of professionals with specialty expertise and interest.

A child born with a separation in the upper lip is said to have a cleft lip. A similar birth defect in the roof of the mouth, or palate, is called a cleft palate. Cleft lip and/or palate are among the most common craniofacial conditions in the United States, affecting one out of every 700 newborns. These congenital differences create extraordinary challenges for kids and their families, both emotional and financial.

The South Florida Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial hospital has provided care for patients with isolated cleft lip and/or palate, as well as those with associated congenital anomalies since 1951. It is regionally and nationally recognized as a Florida Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association Team.

Although plastic surgery provides the basis for correcting these defects, the complex needs of a child with cleft lip or cleft palate are best met when cared for by an interdisciplinary team of health care professionals.

What we do

Our experienced, multidisciplinary team is committed to deliver individualized, compassionate, patient-centered, comprehensive long term care for our patients and their families. Care is provided within the framework of the patient’s overall development, medical and psychological needs. We are also dedicated to supporting and guiding our families throughout their child’s developmental stages, from birth to adulthood.

Treatment includes cutting-edge surgical and therapeutic techniques combined with the dedication of the medical team to provide its young patients with a bright, happy and healthy future.

Who we serve

We provide coordinated, comprehensive team care, including diagnostic and treatment services for children born with a cleft lip, cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies in South Florida.

The interdisciplinary team members are qualified and experienced professionals who interact in a clinic setting addressing the child’s immediate and future surgical, medical, dental, developmental and social needs.

What we cost

We accept most health insurance plans.

Where we are located

We meet at the Mailman Center 1st floor clinic area, once a month.

Mailman Center for Child Development
